A farmer’s son who despite coming from a small family excelled and achieved the heights, this person is a motivation for all which shows with full dedication and hard work one can achieve anything his name is Professor Himanshu Rai.

Educational Background

Himanshu Rai was born in a farmer’s family in the Kanpur city district of Uttar Pradesh. He completed his schooling at Mariampur School located in Kanpur and passed his higher secondary from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Armapur, Kanpur. Followed by completing his Graduation in Engineering from the National Institute of Technology ( NIT ), Karnataka. His educational background did not stop till here, he further pursued a PGDM ( Post Graduate Diploma in Management ) from a renowned Indian Institute of Management IIMA) in 2006.

Teaching Expertise

Coming to his Teaching Expertise in 2006 after completing his PGDM he became a teaching faculty in various renowned IIMs like IIM Lucknow, Indore with its core areas as Human Resources, Organizational Behavior et cetera. He completed his Doctorate from IIM Ahmedabad and became an Excellent Scholar in the year 2010.

He is not only an excellent academician but also imparts education to other professionals by giving training to over 20,000 professionals both from government and private sectors ,and also amongst them is providing training in (LBSNAA) Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration. After completing his Doctorate Dr.Himanshu Rai worked in Tata Steel located in Jamshedpur for about 8 years. In 2018 his career was given a boost when he was appointed as Director of IIM Indore , before this he was also serving as the Dean of MISB Bocconi and the professor at SDA Bocconi School of Management ,Milan , Italy.

Rewards and Recognition

  • He helped the IIM Indore, in achieving various international accreditations like AMBA and AACSB accreditation for the first time.
  • Under his guidance IIM Indore became the second IIM in the nation to get a triple accreditation thereby making it a Triple Crown IIM.
  • The institution has also bagged in the top 100 FT Rankings in 2019 and was placed in the 101+ brands in the world QS Rankings in 2019 for Indian business schools.
  • He also led in the successful completion of the examinations in the COVID.

Due to his excellent service and contribution The Chairman of the Board of Governors ( BoG) M M Murugappan has announced Professor Himanshu Rai’s reappointment as the Director of IIM Indore for the second tenure (2023-2028)till December 2028.
